2026 Street Theatre Performance Schedule

Scene I-The End of the Rebellion - Noon'ish
This year’s street theatre starts with the end of the Whiskey Rebellion in 1794. This scene depicts what happened on the day that George Washington’s militia marched into town to bring the rebellion to an end.

Scene II-The Wrong Command - 2 p.m.
Continuing to move backward in time, President George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, and General “Light-Horse Harry” Lee are in Washington’s command tent discussing how to respond to the rebellion that was happening in the West. Their informants report that the rebels number only in the hundreds, but propaganda spread by rebel leader David Bradford claims their ranks are in the thousands. Do they respond with force, or will they seek to preserve peace? Watch this scene to find out!

Scene III-The Tavern Debate - 3 p.m.

In the Blackbear Tavern, David Bradford strategizes with “Tom the Tinker,” John Holcroft. Distiller Joseph Crispin argues that the rebels do not have the numbers necessary to make their plan succeed. With Washington’s army looming in the distance, the rebels face an important decision—do they stand and fight, or do they submit to the government?

Scene IV-Two Sides of the Same Coin - 4 p.m.

This scene begins with David Bradford addressing the crowd on Braddock’s Field. Until now, Bradford had opposed the Excise Tax while holding firmly to the belief that a peaceful resolution could be reached. However, his speech reveals a different side of him. In response to Bradford’s speech, Albert Gallatin calls for an audience at Whiskey Point, where he pleads with the people to lay down their arms.

Scene V-The Burning of the Neville House - 5 p.m.

This scene shows how the women of the rebellion responded to the burning of John Neville’s house. Emotions run high as they express their concern and anger. The scene then shifts to President George Washington’s office, where we see how he responds to
the news.

Scene VI-The Feathers - 6 p.m.

The day’s street theatre concludes with the act that helped spark the rebellion in 1791—the tarring and feathering of a tax collector. The rebels intend to send a message to Philadelphia, and send one they do!
